DODGE CITY - Hazel M. Mead, 72, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home in rural Ford County.
She was born October 16, 1945 in Prudoe, England, the daughter of Woodrow Wilson and Dorothy (Reed) Ray. A Dodge City resident since 1946, moving from England, she was a Nurse Educator at Dodge City Community College until retiring in 2011 .
She was a member of St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City and Sigma Theta Tau. She was a past member of the Board of Trustees for the Dodge City Public Library. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and loved her job as a teacher.
In 1963 she married Fred Gilliam. They later divorced. In 1975 she married Joel Mead. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Survivors include: her 3 sons, Daren Gilliam, Dodge City, Vance Gilliam, Dodge City and David Mead and wife Cherlyn, Cimarron; 2 brothers, Mike Ray and wife Karla, Lancaster, California and Steve Ray, Dodge City; a sister, Sandy Fick and husband Richard, Arvada, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Bryice Gilliam, Brittney Moffitt and Abigail Coyle; and 4 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Ensign Cemetery with Rev. John Seatvet officiating. There will be no public viewing, cremation has take place.
