DODGE CITY – Linda Sue (Williamson) Denning, 73, died December 28, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains. Born on March 29, 1945 to William A. and Frances (Byers) Williamson of Dodge City, Kansas. She was a lifetime resident of Dodge City, except for a few years when she lived in rural Minneola, Kansas. For many years she wintered in Mesa, Arizona and summered in Rye, Colorado.

She attended elementary schools in Dodge City graduating from DCHS in 1963 with honors. She then attended Dodge City Junior College from 1963 to 1965 where she was on the Dean’s Honor Roll. In 1966 she earned a secretarial certificate from the Vocational Technical School in Dodge City.

In 1974 she married Karl Schlichting of Minneola, Kansas. They later divorced and in 1980 she married Cecil L. Denning in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 16 years and later worked with the United Telephone Company. In 1983 she joined her husband as co-owner of Co-Ed Motors and RV, and together they operated that business until retiring in 1998. She also enjoyed working in her brother’s store, visiting with customers, and taking care of the jewelry.

Linda loved life, she enjoyed caring for and helping others throughout the community, her family, her many friends, her faith, flowers, holidays, jewelry, clothes and animals of all kinds. Her hobbies included her pets, doll repair and jewelry making.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, an active member of the Women of the Moose, Dodge City Dollies Doll Club, Circle of Hope Cancer Survivors, Telephone Pioneers of America and her church’s Wednesday morning coffee club, the EWI-WAFLI Club (Every Wednesday if we all feel like it!)

When in business, she was a member of the South Dodge Business Association, the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce, Round-Up Rodeo Association and the National Recreational Vehicle Dealer’s Association. She volunteered for many years for the Ford County Humane Society.

Survivors include two brothers; Gary Williamson and wife Sharon of Stillwell, Oklahoma, and Dan Williamson and wife Kathy of Dodge City. She is also survived by her many special nieces and nephews, her many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and her many special lifelong friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Greg and Joe Williamson, and her husband Cecil L. Denning.

Memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday January 5, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Dodge City, with Rev. Jerre Nolte officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmont Cemetery in Jetmore, Kansas. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. Book signing will be Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family would welcome memorials to the First United Methodist Church, the Ford County Humane Society, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Arrowhead West, or any other charity of the donor’s choice all in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
