DODGE CITY - Donald E. Fitzsimmons, Jr., 76, passed away on January 30, 2022 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Ft. Dodge. He was born on April 11, 1945 in Dodge City, the son of Donald E. and Lillian (Hessman) Fitzsimmons.

Don was a lifetime resident of Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1963. He then attended Dodge City Community College. Don enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and was stationed in Hawaii and Virginia. After the service he returned to Dodge City and earned his Bachelor Degree from St. Mary of the Plains College. On June 28, 1975 he married Cathy Cook in Dodge City. He worked for Dodge City Office Equipment as a technician and later at Curtis Machine until he retired in 2020. Don enjoyed motorcycles and jigsaw puzzles.

He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Dodge City.

Don is survived by his wife, Cathy Fitzsimmons of Dodge City; two daughters, Sarah Fitzsimmons of Dodge City and Melody Kerr and husband Jeremy of Lenexa, a sister, Judy Heble of La Veta, Colorado; and four brothers, Troy, Kurt, Tracy and Bart Fitzsimmons all of Dodge City. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Todd Fitzsimmons, and a sister, Marsha Horn.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10:30 AM with pastor Brian Kimball presiding.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military honors provided by the US Navy and American Legion District 8 Honor Guard.  Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 4, 2022 from Noon to 8:00PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Arrowhead West in care of the funeral home.  Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
