Robert L. “Bob” Salm, 65, died March 29, 2011 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on May 22, 1945 at Dodge City, the son of Isadore A. and Marjory Ann (Sydenstricker) Salm.

Bob grew up in Dodge City where he attended St. Mary's of the Plains High School and later graduated from Dodge City High School in 1963. He attended Dodge City Community College and Ft. Hays State University where he recieved his Bachelor degree in Music Education. He later returned to Ft. Hays State to obtain his masters degree. 

Bob was a music teacher at several high schools, St. Mary's of the Plains, and DCCC. He later worked as an ITV Technician for DCCC and A Plus Network. Bob was an accomplished trumpet player and played for many occasions and events in the area. He was a 50 year member of the Cowboy Band where served as the bands historian. Bob documented the history of the band back to the 1880’s. He was an avid history buff studing the history of Dodge City and the Santa Fe Trail. 

Bob married Carol Williamson on March 18, 2000 at Dodge City. He and Carol spent three weeks in Africa on a mission trip. After his mission trip he helped raise funding for fresh water wells in Africa. .

He was a member of the First Assembly of God of Dodge City and the Dodge City Cowboy Band.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Salm of Dodge City; daughter, Julie Salm of El Paso, Texas; two step daughters, Debbie Vick and husband Jon of Rapid City, South Dakota and April Schielke of Derby; two step sons, Chris Williamson and wife Beki of Ford and Aaron Williamson and wife Rebecca of Carterville, Illinois; three brothers, Richard Salm and wife Becki of Dodge City, David Salm and wife Joyce of Los Lunas, New Mexico and Glenn Salm of Larned; two sisters, Beth Watson and husband Warren of Topeka and Martha Kenton and husband Lee of Dodge City; two grandchildren and six step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at the First Assembly of God Church on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Graves presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Dodge City Cowboy Band in care of the funeral home.
