DODGE CITY – Joseph Pete Gonzales, 77, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home in Dodge City, Kansas.

He was born on November 16,1943 in Dodge City, Kansas the son of Domingo D. and Angelita (Espinoza) Gonzales. He was a lifetime area resident graduating from Dodge City High School then later on was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, GI Forum, and Mariah Hills Golf Course, all in Dodge City. He enjoyed sports of all types and was quite the athlete himself. He loved to golf, bowl, fish, hunt and be outdoors. Joseph enjoyed life to the fullest and was a true family man. He was always spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

On April 29, 1970 he married Elogia Lozano at Dodge City, Kansas. She survives.

Survivors also include: his 4 children, Joseph Gonzales, Carl Junction, Missouri, Damon Gonzales, Lubbock, Texas, Travis Gonzales, Dodge City, and Angelita Gonzales and husband Francisco, Dodge City; his brother, Albert Gonzales, Dodge City; 8 grandchildren, Kristopher Gonzales, Brienna Gonzales Robertson, Jace Gonzales, Travis J.P. Gonzales, Tyler Gonzales, Jordan Gonzales, and Aleyna Gonzales; and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jayden Gonzales, 4 sisters, Francis Esquibel, Esther Ontiberos, Micaela Perez, and Angelita Gonzales, and 6 brothers, Eddie, Manuel, Leonard, Pete, Julian “Non”, and Frank Gonzales, and his best friend, Frankie Ontiveros.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Friday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Dodge with full military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas.

The family suggests memorials to the Joseph Gonzales Memorial Fund in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
