DODGE CITY - Shirley L. Stateler, 68, died August 28, 2013 at 2501 Post, Dodge City. She was born on June 27, 1945 at Dodge City the daughter of Jeff and Anita (Drews) Andrews.

Shirley spent her childhood on the family farm in Ford County. She graduated from Dodge City and High School and Wilcox Beauty Academy of Dodge City. On May 7, 1967 she married Stanley C. Stateler at Dodge City. Shirley was the owner and operator of Shirley's Day Care in Dodge City for 42 years. She cared for over 500 children in her day care. Shirley retired in march of 2012 due to her health.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City, Moose Lodge of Dodge City, and Dodge City Day Care Asociation.

Shirley is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sara Stateler of Dodge City; mother, Anita Andrews-Richardson of Dodge City; brother, Don Andrews and wife Shelby of Dodge City; three grandchildren, Hayley Lowery of Borger, Texas, Tyler Stateler and Hope Stateler both of Dodge City; and four brother-in-laws, Don Melton and wife Virginia, Jim Barnes, Robert Haskell, and Jim Wattier; three sister-in-laws, Leola Downey, Vae Kreger and husband Jim, and Vi Brander and husband Frank. She was preceded in death by her father; husband, Stanley; son, Scott Stateler; grandson, Kalab Stateler; three sisters, Carolyn Haskell, Wanita Barnes, and Delores Melton; one sister-in-law, Marie Wattier; and one brother-in-law, Tom Downey.

Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Dr. Phil Scott and Mr. Richard Crockett presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, August 30, 2013 from noon to 8:00 PM.
